Children from Rose Hill Primary School have planted two newly dedicated Fryer's Roses named Rosa 'Rose Hill' in both of the flower beds constructed by the Friends of Rose Hill Station.
The Marple photographer, Arthur Procter, was there to record the event.
The children were chosen on the basis of a poetry competition organised by one of our members, Joyce Reed, with the winners plus the highly commended doing the
planting. Also included in the photo are FoRHS members.
Rose Hill Rail Passenger Traffic Up by 27%
The Transport for Greater Manchester Rail Committee has reported that the revenue at Rose Hill station has grown by 27.5% after moving six weekday off peak trains from Marple station in December 2010. In the same period revenue at Marple also increased by 7%.
David Sumner, Chairman of the Friends of Rose Hill Station, says that the whole of Marple has benefited from this initiative and believes that the efforts of the Friends group in substantially improving the environment around Rose Hill station has contributed significantly to this result.
He added that the excellent station staff, encouraged by Northern Rail, has also contributed to help make Rose Hill an attractive station to use. The newly implemented CCTV, passenger information screens and help points will also make Rose Hill a safer station. We also look forward to more carriages on key peak hour trains from December.
Santa joins the 10.30 Friends of Rose Hill Station train
The 10.30 train from Rose Hill Station to Manchester Piccadilly on Saturday 26th November had a special traveller – Santa.
He was joined by children and parents from the surrounding areas who filled the two extra carriages on the train. Prior to the start mulled wine, hot juice and mince pies helped to create the festive spirit.
A singer/guitarist led the singing of carols and other Christmas songs with the highlight being Santa handing out goody bags, kindly donated by Northern Rail.
Everybody had an enjoyable time with most passengers opting to stay on in Manchester and asking for the event to be repeated next year.
